It All Adds Up Quilt A Long - part 2

All People Quilt is having their quilt-a-long: It All Adds Up, and I'm following Bonnie Hunters guide and going through my 2 1/2" scraps and making and pink and purple plus quilt.   Using the instagram tag #apqquiltalong

What is the APQ Quilt-Along?

Here is my previous week's worth of "+" blocks using my pink and purple theme from my scraps

Slowly,  I am making these 6"x8" blocks.  I like how they are turning out, no two the same.

It All Adds Up Quilt A Long

2016 is looking to be a great year for quilt a longs.

Here are some of my blocks from my scrap bin:

and here is how I'm planning to lay it out, sort of staggered rows.

My daughter's favorite colors are pink and purple, and I'm sneaking in the music themed neutrals to frame some of the plus signs.

Are you working on a 2016 quilt-a-long?

Pat Sloan's String Bean Challenge

This month Pat Sloan has been having a challenge to use up some of your scraps and make her String Bean block and quilt. See Pat Sloan's String Bean Challenge for details of the challenge and her link to the block instructions.

Pat's directions have the block finish at 12 x 15 using a center block 5 x 7. I decided to use a 5 x 10 center by cutting up layer cakes, so my blocks end up at 13" x 18". I also didn't use all 2 1/2" strips, but used 2 sets of 1 1/2" strips mixed with 1 row of 2 1/2" strips to give it a bit of a different look.

So let me know what you think?  I think I am going to finish up more blocks and take this from baby size to bed size.

Work in Progress Wednesday : Jelly Roll Batik EPP Hexagons!

I've picked up some batik jelly rolls, and feel the fabrics would make great English Paper Pieced hexagon flowers.

Here are some 1 1/8" hexagons from my jelly roll, I need 6 of each color to make a flower, with a 7th hexagon (to be chosen) for the centers:

I've hand basted these, pressed with a dry iron, removed the cardboards, then steam pressed and they are ready to be sewn together at some later, unknown time. I've also got a set of 6 1" hexagons from the same jelly roll strips that I will show another time, as I haven't basted those yet.

Sunday Stash #3 - Bali Crackers & Food

It's Sunday and I'm going to try and post again with Moli Sparkles Sunday Stash

Molli Sparkles

I managed to get a good closeout deal on some Bali Crackers, there are the Hoffman batiks, cut 10" x 10", and you get 40 to a package. I got :
top row:       Brown Sugar; Tiramisu; Parfait;
bottom row: Wild Berry; Rum Raisin; Macaron:
I also managed to get the 2 1/2" strips for some batiks, but that is for another Sunday Stash.

And I picked up these wonderful food Fat Quarters: Chocolate bars (all mis-spelled to get around copywrite? "SNECKERS" instead of snickers, "Kit Cat" instead of "Kit Kat" - never noticed this when I was picking out the fabrics; mushrooms; chicken wings; mac & cheese; pretzels; curly fries; and last but not least, carrots.

I'm looking at making a food quilt for my son. I've amassed a stash of pizza, hot peppers, and other foods. Next Sunday Stash I'll include a few more new food fabrics I found.

What new fabrics have you picked up for your stash?

Summer Completed Strip Quilts for Hospice

It's been a while since I posted an update to my strip quilts for hospice that I'm working on this year. Beginning of June I reported that I had done 17 out of my goal of 30 for the year.

I did manage to get some strip quilts completed in September, another 5:

And over June/July/August six more got done:

This brings my yearly total up to 17 + 5 + 6 = 28 - just 2 short of my goal of 30 for the year!

How are you doing with the goals you set at the beginning of the year towards making quilts for your favorite charity?
