It All Adds Up Quilt-A-Long #4

Here are my latest PLUS blocks for the APQ quilt along

Mostly pinks this time, with a few purples. Another 27 blocks, added to the 72 I have already made, putting me at 97 blocks made so far, out of a few minutes sewing here and there, all from my scrap bins.

Sunday Stash #5 - Placemats

I'm one for quick projects, and what could be faster than a placemat panel.  I picked up these two fabrics late December hoping to make some holiday gifts.  I just found the bag I had put away so I wouldn't lose it!

A set that would make a lovely fall place setting. A got 12 of these, thinking a set of 4 would make a nice gift.

And I just love these amaryllis plants that bloom in the December season. A set of 4 would be a lovely table setting for the winter months. Just batting, backing, some quilting, and then the binding, and voila, a quilted placemat.

It All Adds Up Quilt A Long #3

I continue to rummage through my scraps looking for pinks and purples to make my scrappy plus blocks.  I've found many more scraps than I ever thought I had laying around, and most of the scrappy piles had a few pinks and purples I could use.

Here is my next batch of blocks I have made:

Mostly purples, but I managed to find a few pinks.  I am really enjoying making these, and finding all these wonderful fabric scraps to use up.

Slow Sunday Stitching #4

Here are a couple of more hexagon flowers.  The larger are 1" and the smaller are 1/2".

I like how the colors play with the shape.

Sunday Stash #4 - Oval Pink Kona

I don't often run across something I just gotta have for my stash, but this hot pink Kona cotton with the oval weave caught my eye.

And not being shy, figuring I'd never find this again, I decided to splurge on 4 yards!  It was on the markdown rack, next to a teal version.  The teal didn't grab me like this pink did. Normally solids can be a bit hum drum, but add this texture to the hot pink and it became "Wow!"

It really glistens in the light.  Just a bit will add that special sparkle to a quilt and I want to make a pile of  sparkly quilts with this fabric.

Slow Sunday Stitching #3

It has been a productive week for my hand stitching this past week.  I had some idle moments waiting for events to start after I was seated, and by having a zip lock bag with my hexis and clover clip I was able to complete an additional three hexagon flowers!

On the left is a 1/2" hexagon blue flower - it is 2 5/8" across.  The two right flowers are made with 7/16" hexis, which is 2 5/16" across, almost 3/8" difference in size.

Considering I used to consider "hand" sewing a four letter word, and started with 2" hexis, that I am now able to work smaller I consider a big accomplishment.  And I am able to use charm squares and scraps as my fabric supply to created my future hand stitched garden.  A slow journey for sure, but one worth the wait.

The Modern HST Sampler - Q1 Finishes

I have joined the Modern HST Sampler, which is 2 HST blocks a month, so for the first three months of 2016, there are 6 blocks.

Block #1 – Candy Block #2 – Ninja Block #3 – Lantern:

Block #4 – Stepping Stones Block #5 – Mountain Block #6 – Formation :

And here are my 6 blocks. Click to see everyone's finishes for the quarter.

I used some scraps from my Japanese Taupes to make these. A good way to use up scraps and make a quilt top. In between sewing these blocks, I was using my Plus blocks as leaders and enders to continue chain piecing. I'll have a posting soon of my latest blocks for that scrap quilt.
